There might be something wrong with the parameters. Do you verify the wireless password of your home WiFi? Also if there is security setting on your router, like MAC filtering, the extender may not work. In addition I heard that some routers do not work with tplink extender very well, some settings, such as wireless security type, encryption, need modified. BTW, firmware update may help.
