AC2600 Wi-Fi Range Extender (RE650)

I was able to use the WPS feature to get the range extender to connect to the 2Ghz band of my router; but the 5Ghz did not work; I tried to do it repeatedly via both option 1 and 2 described in the quick start guide (basically press the WPS button on router OR web browser) to no avail. Is there someway to check why the 5Ghz band won't connect? I am able to tweak settings on the router itself via a web interface as well, but I'm not sure what to check for. Thanks.
