Transmission Power settings vs. Specification
The EAP245 (US) has transmission power in the specs as "<27dBm". In the settings in the Linux Controller, the maximum setting is only 24dBm. Is this a controller bug?
Also, on a related topic, the EAP653 (US) is spec'd at transmission power of only 22dBm whereas the EAP650 (US) is spec'd at 25dBm. Assuming this is correct, why would the EAP653 be rated at half the power of the EAP650? I got caught in this trap thinking the units were identical with the exception of the power adapter being included with the EAP650. I ended up returning the EAP653 as it was providing a weaker signal than the EAP245 I wanted to replace.

Thanks, I have the US EAP245 model. Looking for clarification on why the spec is <27dBm transmit power while in the controller, it can only be set to 24dBm...bug? On my EAP670, the spec shows <28dBm transmit power, and it can be set to 28dBm in the controller.
Appreciate any further info on this.

I took some time to confirm this information with product engineers. It seems like the US website SPEC has wrong info. The correct number is 24dBm.
I will report this issue to US website agents and ask them to correct the SPEC.

Hi. Same here. Stuck with my new EAP653 and the only maximum allowable dbm i can set is 22dbm. Any work around to set it to 25dbm as same with EAP650. This eap653 has lesser range than the EAP225V3 it replaced (24dbm max setting) any help would be appreciated @Fae, @Hanz, @Hank21

Can you confirm that the eap653 is a low power version of the EAP650? Or just an error in the firmware wherein only 22dbm max can only be set.

higher power does not stand for better performance. if you are deploying a large network with tons of aps, you should worry about the overlap. sometimes you need to lower the transmit pwr a little bit to get less interference from the unnecessary overlap coverage.
but that seems to be a mistake on tp-link end.

btw, I did not read all that amazon review posted above.
i'd say that's dumb if you compare the price with transmit power.
you pick up a thing, compare the cpu, memory, transmit power and speed test readings. also, the temp of operating.
a gaming brand, lol, is known to make devices that thermal throttle and cause disconnection.

In my case, I traded an EAP245 (3x3) for the EAP653 (2x2) and performance (range primarily) was worse. 22dBm is a pretty low output for an access point, compared to the other offerings. Since I couldn't know for sure if the issue was lower power or trading the 3x3 for a 2x2 antenna configuration, I decided to just get the EAP670 where the performance was substantially better. With with the EAP653, hosts would move from the marginal 5Ghz to the 2.4Ghz band, the 670 provides a solid 5Ghz for the same hosts. This is expected moving from a 22dBm 2x2 unit to a 28dBm 4x4 unit. I just can't quantify which spec difference had the most effect.

is that the very small compact version for eap600? i don't remember it wrong.
they downgrade the spatial stream since that's enough for most daily usage. and the smaller size is for putting in a room to cover one or two. i once had them on my hands it's so small. if the model is right. and it's rly hot. that's more suitable for multi-room deployment and numbers weighs the performance.
i expect the 6ghz coming soon. clean and no congestion channel.
