Omada Setup with ExpressVPN Router
Omada Setup with ExpressVPN Router

I just installed an Omada setup in my house with the following hardware and connected in the following order.

WAN -> ER605 -> Switch -> EAPs -> Hardwired Connections

I have a Linksys WRT3200ACM router with VPN Express installed on it that I would also like to run in this setup. Can anyone help me in my configuration? I've tried connecting the setup in the following orders but each time the ER605 disconnects from the setup. The goal is to have most of the traffic on the home network run through this VPN to encrypt the traffic. ExpressVPN offers split tunneling which I would like to keep intact if possible. The ExpressVPN firmware has no means of turning off DHCP that I am able to find. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Tried so far.

WAN -> ER605 -> WRT3200ACM (LAN Port) -> Switch

WAN -> ER605 -> WRT3200ACM (WAN Port) -> Switch

  @Hartman9 If you want a simple solution it would be:

WAN -> WRT3200ACM -> ER605 -> Switch

The WAN would get plugged into the WAN port on the WRT.  Then the put a cable between the WAN port of the ER605 and a LAN port on the WRT.

That being said, you will be double-natted and I am not sure what the point of the ER605 is in that setup.

Why do you want to use both router/firewall/gateways?

The reason I need the ER605 is like you stated, as a firewall and for ACL rules. I was able to get this partially working by setting up a VLAN on the switch for the WRT3200ACM router in the following configuration. This only allows for one subnet as far as I can tell. WAN -> ER605 -> WRT3200ACM (WAN Port) -> Switch Of course now the issue I am having is trying to create VLANs off of the WRT3200ACM so I can have the VPN on unique subnets. Any suggestions on how to do this? Thanks.

  @Hartman9 If your goal is to have different subnets routing to through the WRT3200ACM or straight through the LAN.  I would do it like this:

Create two VLANs/subnets on the WRT3200ACM.  Connect one of them to the WAN port on the ER605 and the other to the WAN/LAN1 port.  Both of them should be setup as WAN ports.  Then use policy-based routing on the Omada side to decide which subnets go to the VPN or not.

  @Alex789 I can try this but the settings on the WRT3200ACM are limited as you can see in the picture below so I don't think I can create two subnets. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  @Hartman9 In that case, I am out of ideas.

I don't think the routing in the ER605 is capable of doing source-based routing to another internal segment.  For that matter, I am not sure it can apply any routing rules across LAN segments.

  @btx I would like to try your solution but I think the big issue I am running into is that I have no way of turning off DHCP on the linksys router. The firmware on the router is ExpressVPN and I don't have many options. So I don't think I can put Wireguard on there without taking of ExpressVPN?
