OC200 latest firmware update fails
I have now doen this process twice, and both times failed exactly the same.
Performing the upgrade to the new firmware (5.x) from the last latest release (September 21) fails. After reboot it gets to 67% at start up and just sits there indefinately with no clue as to what its doing - left it for an hour or so!.
Power cycle it and then it states abnormal data has been detected.
Factory reset and then it boots, then try to restore the backed up config which gets to 98% and fails to play.
Really not helpful, now to downgrade the thing again !.
This update seems a fail on my part !!.

Great point. A low profile USB stick (similar to wireless mouse USB dongle) plugged in and not really protruding out, is what I will be using henceforth and thus not dependent on customer maintaining backups (and in my case all cobtrollers are OC300). But I do find is that with cloud managed, remotely accessed controller, there is no option to manually backup. This option is only available when logged in thru a local computer. There is though option for auto backup, which, I should then be able to use.
And hopefully as you indicated configuration might remain intact, when 5.0.29 is uploaded using recovery process.
Thanks

Thanks. This was the only site that I discovered that we did not have the device password or a backup kept with us. All other 7 sites I have this information collected and saved with me as I realized sometime ago that if we don't have device password and controller failed and needed to be replaced or is done a factory reset (which also then changes device password) , and if backup did not work, then at least we can manually reconfigure and put the old device account back in and all devices will then join. Else we will then need to factory reset all devices as well.

Update: I was able to get my OC200 upgraded after the previous failure/restore. Not sure which part is important, but here's what worked:
- Log into the controller locally, via it's IP address
- Do a manual Backup of your settings/data now (Settings -->Maintenance). You can't do this via Cloud access.
- Turn Off cloud access to the controller.
- Download the OC200/300 firmware manually. The OC200 global English site is here: https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/oc200/#Firmware
(Note, the US site doesn't seem to have the latest firmware uploaded.) - Manually Upgrade the controller (Settings-->Maintenance) using the downloaded firmware
- Wait. It takes +5 minutes.
- Login locally and re-enable Cloud Access, if desired.
- Note: After logging in, the controller re-adopted all of my devices. So network/internet may be affected during this process.
I'm now on 1.14.2 Build 20211215 Rel.61111

Good to know. But when you attempted recovery process, and uploaded firmware, not sure why you also needed to restore the configuration also from backup. The controller is supposed to keep the old configuration. I tested with an OC300 in lab and it retains the config.

Interesting, I tried that but not turning the cloud access off. If I have a bored hour this evening I'll have another shot at it. What devices do you have connected ?.

Not sure what to tell you. Possibly related to the failed upgrade. After I recovered it, no settings were retained, so I just restored by backup config.

Just an ER605, a TL-SG2218, and two EAP245s.

That's a similar setup to me, two switches, a router and three eaps.
Tried what you did and it's exactly the same, downgrade and restore number three happening now, going to leave it alone now until TPLINK come up with something definite. They have my config, wish you could sanitise configs to remove passwords, I've had to change all mine now everywhere.

I believe automatic backup only works if OC200 is powered from POE, correct?
@supermarkert
This is correct. (And a baffling/maddening limitation)
