Hello TP-Link Community,

 

I am considering migrating to the TP-Link EAP211-Bridge or EAP215-Bridge models for a Point-to-MultiPoint (PTMP) setup in my network, and I would like to hear from users with real-world experience as well as insights from TP-Link representatives.

 

My Current Setup:

Currently, I use Ubiquiti LiteBeam 5AC or Loco 5AC as stations and a Ubiquiti LAP 120 as the access point. This setup has been stable for connecting multiple stations with cameras in a PTMP topology. However, since the entire project network is transitioning to the Omada ecosystem, I am considering switching to TP-Link's EAP211-Bridge or EAP215-Bridge for consistency and centralized management.

 

Planned PTMP Design:

  • Access Point:
    • 1x EAP211-Bridge in AP mode.
  • Stations:
    • 4x EAP211-Bridge as stations, each connected to one camera.
    • The distances for the stations vary: the closest station will be placed at 25 meters, and the farthest station will be at 150 meters.
    • There is a small chance I might need to add a 5th station in the future.

 

My Questions:

  1. Capacity for PTMP Connections:

    • Can the EAP211-Bridge reliably support 4-5 stations in this setup, with each station connecting to a camera?
    • Is there any noticeable performance degradation when reaching the upper limit of PTMP connections?
  2. User Experiences:

    • Has anyone implemented a similar PTMP setup with the EAP211 or EAP215?
    • How does the performance compare to other bridge devices, such as Ubiquiti's LiteBeam or Loco series, in terms of stability and throughput?
  3. EAP215 vs. EAP211:

    • Would there be a significant advantage in using the EAP215-Bridge as the access point for greater stability or range?
  4. Omada Integration:

    • How seamless is the integration of the EAP211/EAP215-Bridge with the Omada ecosystem for monitoring and management?

 

Context:

The project requires reliable video transmission from cameras to a central point. All stations have clear line-of-sight (LOS), and the distances are under 150 meters, with the closest station at 25 meters.

I'm looking for advice on whether transitioning to TP-Link's EAP series for PTMP makes sense, particularly considering the potential for future scalability and the added benefits of Omada integration.

The EAP211-Bridge and EAP215-Bridge are both designed to support multiple stations in a PTMP setup. EAP bridge products can only add 4 wireless sub units at most, so adding a 5th sub unit is not an option for now. You may consider plugging an EAP-outdoor unit instead.

The EAP215-Bridge has a more powerful antenna with a gain of 11.0 dBi compared to the EAP211-Bridge’s antenna gain. Hi,

 

First, I'm no expert here :) I wanted to give you some comment here. Sorry if that won't be usefull for you.

 

I'm about to install pair of EAP215 myself this month. That will be a first of such for me so we will see.

 

I have decided to go with EAP215 over EAP211 since the range is better - I was checking that using official MAP functionality in controller and setting some virtual devices there.

In my case, the distance between those two will be about 120m.

 

Keep in mind that those two devices have differen antennas [211 - right; 215 - left]:

So choose proper set based on your needs. If your client's will be spread, I believe the 211 may have better coverage.

 

Moreover, as far as I know, those devices supports up to 4 clients - so adding 5th EAP won't work.

 

I've seen that this series is supported by Omada Controller (unlike CPE series). Just make sure you have up to date controller's firmware.

 

 

I'll try to give you some feedback once I install my setup, unless you will be faster with yours :)
