ER605 v1.0 & V2.0 Differences?
Can someone explain the differences between V1.0 & V2.0 hardware?
Trying to find out why a new firmware is available for V2.0 (& V2.6) but not V1.0
Is it because it is not yet tested (on V1.0) or because it will never be available due to hardware differences?

So other than "new chip solution" (providing more concurrent sessions and slightly higher throughput) and USB to enable 3G/4G modem are all other differences firmware related?

V1 firmware uses Linux Kernel 3.10.1 and V2 firmware uses Linux Kernel 4.4.198. This means TP Link is having to maintain them as very separate firmwares with also very separate testing. This helps explain the lag time between releases. Sometimes V1 is out way early and sometimes V2, but they will likely prioritize V2 higher from now on even though V1 arguably has higher customer base (and issue rate in forums).
