Would be REALLY nice it TPLink will make a similar device like this:

https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-network-routing-switching/products/unifi-dream-machine?_pos=1&_sid=87c3fca2c&_ss=r

Or a business router that has at least WIFI built in that would work with several EAP245 AP's seamless just like a team.  This design is perfect for small businesses and residentail. So when you set this up the devices will roam and the same SSID works in all of the business or residential home.

I dont think TPLink's consumers wifi routers will work with EAP line in a controller???  Please verify?  New TPLink user here.

Hi Doc2485,

Depends. For example, we used TL-WDR4300 and Archer C7 as routers for EAPs by installing OpenWrt Linux to the routers. Works fine, gives you even a VLAN-aware router, except that NAT throughput is very limited with such a consumer device. The consumer router becomes the bottleneck of the whole network, which might be o.k. for consumers, but not for businesses.

In my opinion, a business-class router should have better throughput, support VLANs, support routing protocols, support a stateful firewall, support DHCP and DNS servers, support monitoring the network, grant access to the command line of the Linux OS etc.

@R1D2 Yes I totally agree.  80% of my clients are businesses and I use the business hardware in the residential also because it is just better for sure.

Thank you!!!!!!

@Doc2485, you're welcome.

Agreed, residential use cases do benefit from business-class APs, too. In this case I also use cheap SOHO WiFi routers running OpenWrt (the latter just to be able to implement VLANs in case a guest network is needed).

@chawalinsan2 @FaithGlover85  Just really hope they come up with one..... when Unifi created the UDM with controller built in..... WOW! So much easier to setup and deploy to many clients.
