Hi all

i have two CPE510s. One set up as access point the other as client. I have successfully sent my wifi signal about 800m to my seahouse but the problem is the Client is in the front of the seahouse because its the clearest line of sight so I cannot get the signal inside the seahouse. (Which i suspect is because I am  behind the CPE instead of infront of it) I have moved it to the side of the seahouse and can get the signal af the side of the seahouse outside the window but still cant get it inside the house.

I am wondering what suggestions? Should i set it up as a bridge? Can i connect the client to a wifi extender and have the wifi be sent into the house with that device?

Is there a way to set up ap client mode and have the client connect to a wifi router.... thinking that client would be set up differently instead of transmitting a wifi signal.

Hope someone can help. Thank you!

Hi @Pattielee,

CPEs have directional antennas, which concentrate RF energy of the WiFi signal in a specific direction (45º beam width for CPE510). If you need WiFi indoors, I suggest you connect an AP such as EAP225 or TL-WA901ND to the CPE by wire. This is the best solution to extend the WiFi coverage indoors.

One of the CPEs must be running in AP mode, the other in client mode. Which one is connected to the router doesn't matter, but I would connect the AP to the router, so it doesn't interfere with the remote (omnidirectional) indoor AP.

Thanks so much. This has been helpful. @R1D2

i just want to make aure again before i go setting everything up.

My AP is connected to my main modem/router at my house. Its sending a signal 800 meters away to the client. Client is receiving signal clear and strong. Then i plug in the omni directional router into the client to get the wifi indoors. Is that correct? And is it hard to connect the omni directional router and set it up?

I would not use a WLAN router, but an access point (AP). If you have a spare WLAN router, you could use it as an AP instead. To do so, disable the DHCP server and plug the cable from the (client) CPE to one of the LAN ports - not the WAN/Internet port - of the WLAN router. This way your WLAN router works as an AP and setup is as easy as assigning it an IP (just to reach its web UI).

You're welcome, @Pattielee.

If trying the router variant, remember to set up static routes between the two different subnets if hosts on one network should be able to communicate with hosts on the other network.
