I'm configuring a SG108E switch.

How do I control which VLAN / port the switch receives its IP address from when DHCP client enabled? I'll have two different DHCP servers on different vlans.

Is it always on VLAN 1? Must I have a port with PVID 1 available so the switch can receive an address?

Thanks,

Bandit.

To answer my own question, after some playing:

(1) The switch is discoverable by the easy smart software from any vlan
(2) You cannot control via setup which vlan it asks for an ip address from.
(3) However, from any vlan you can discover and re-initiate dhcp to bring switch IP to your current vlan network (using login credentials).

Benefit: Not able to "lock" yourself out of the switch by misconfiguring vlans.

Drawback: Discovery software can be run from any vlan, so be sure to have a good password on the switch!

It would be nice to control which vlan can communicate with the switch management, for security purposes. If you are segregating a private and public networks, you certainly wouldn't want someone to be able to break into the switch from the public side.

Feature request?
