Can't set up DMZ

I've been trying to put a Playstation 3 into a DMZ to help it get a more direction connection to the Sony network. Based on my reading, it should be as easy as creating a static IP for the PS3, and then putting that IP into the DMZ. When I do that though, I get a message about it being in conflict with other ports. If I leave it on enabled, the entire network goes down, I can't access the router, and have to hit the reset button and start all over. Does anyone have any help for this? My old Trendnet router had no problem doing this.
