I used to have a cheap, old access point on my top-floor and upgraded it to Omada, using the controller OC200 and an EAP245.

 

My trusty Brother DCP-9020CDW has always been connected wirelessly to the previous access points, with little or no problems. All devices in my household (various laptops's, Android phones, iPhones and iPads) have always been able to connect to the printer.

After the upgrade, the printer connects just fine to the new access point and appears with an IP when checking the network with the controller. However the devices just won't connect/find the printer anymore. Since it did work fine with my previous access point, I'm guessing there's some incompatibility somewhere.

Any ideas on what could be the issue?

What I've tried so far:

- Rebooting the printer and reinstalling the network

- Searching the printer with my various devices which won't find it except the controller OC200 which sees it in the connected devices

- Reinstalling the printer drivers on my Mac

- Punching the wall to chaneling my fustration into a very creative activity...

You may try the following:

1. Verify Wireless Security Compatibility: Check the wireless security settings on the EAP. Try changing the encryption type to a more widely supported option, if possible. For example, if the access point is set to WPA3 - only, try setting it to WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode. Also, ensure that the authentication method (such as pre - shared key or other methods) is compatible with the printer's capabilities. You may need to refer to the printer's manual to find out what wireless security settings it supports. Or you can create an open wireless network to have a try;

 

2. Check for VLAN and Network Segmentation: - Review the VLAN settings in the Omada controller. Make sure the printer and your other devices are on the same VLAN. If VLANs are enabled, you may need to configure the access point to allow traffic between the VLANs that the printer and devices are on, or move the printer to the same VLAN as the devices;

 

3. Printer's Network Mode and IP Configuration: Some printers have different network modes, such as infrastructure mode (connecting to an access point) and ad - hoc mode (connecting directly to devices). Make sure the printer is set to infrastructure mode. Also, check if the printer's IP address is obtained correctly via DHCP. You could try setting a static IP address for the printer if it's having trouble obtaining a consistent IP through DHCP. This might make it easier for the devices to connect to it.
