Need advice on expanding infrastructure and choosing network equipment

Hi,

I need help choosing network equipment for expanding my home network. I have fiber optic brought to my ER605 router, and the signal is transmitted via RJ45 (Cat 5e) cable to the SG2008P switch. I plan to add more switches, access points (EPS), and an Omada controller.

Assumptions:

  • Maximum throughput: up to 1 Gb/s, with Category 5e wiring.
  • Main devices:
    • Switch in the RACK cabinet (2 NAS, NVR for cameras).
    • Switch in the office (business and personal computers, printer via Wi-Fi).
    • EPS (Wi-Fi 6, mesh): 1 on the ground floor, 1 on the upper floor.
    • Smart home (modules for the alarm system).
    • Wi-Fi devices: gas furnace control, energy consumption monitoring (solar power system).

What I need:

  1. Recommendations for devices to separate networks (e.g., business computer from personal devices, smart home).
  2. Recommendations for optimal switches for the RACK cabinet and possible use of SPF (distance up to 3 m, throughput up to 1 Gb/s).
  3. Ability to manage the network from a phone.

Thanks for your help! 😊

1. Any of the Omada routers can do it with the Gateway ACL.

2. Depends on the port you need, PoE, etc. Most basic gigabit switches with SFP can be used.

Try the filter and find the switch that suits you.

3. The Omada system has been introduced with many more features available on the Omada app. Some features may not be available due to their complexity.
