I found that TP Link has a relatively new multi-gig router and read that it has 1 x 2.5g WAN, 1 x 2.5g WAN/LAN and 4 x 1g WAN/LAN. Would the above diagram works?

It would work based on your diagram. It follows the port property and speed strictly. Don't see any problems with your diagram.
