Model: ER7206 (TL-ER7206)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.0

I'm a little new, I have a Kids VLAN 20 (192.168.20.1/24). Kids desktop is hardwired to network. By default, the gateway assigns it LAN network IPs (192.168.10.1/24). How do I force my Kids desktop to connect to VLAN 20 or is that not possible?

I can do it via Port control, but its behind a switch so port control is not possible, so wondering if its possible from client side.   I thought this DHCP reservation would work.  DHCP Range is set from .10 - .254.

I don't believe you can do that, it could not support.

The PVID (default VLAN) of all LAN ports on the ER7206 router and TL-SG2210P is 1. When the LAN port is connected with ordinary devices like the desktop which usually don't support VLAN, the received frames are untagged, so the connected ordinary devices will work in the default VLAN 1.

To make the desktop work in VLAN 20, you may need to change the PVID of the connected LAN port to 20 first.

  • If the desktop is directly plugged into the LAN port of ER7206 router, you may change the PVID on the router with your Controller: Configure the router Ports from Devices bar and change the PVID of the connected LAN from 1 to 20.

  • If the desktop is hardwired to the ER7206 router through the TL-SG2210P switch, since the switch is capable of VLAN, you may configure on the switch instead: Configure the switch Ports from Devices bar and edit the connected port to change the Profile from "All" to "Kids" (the interface name of VLAN20).

Hope the above info helps.

@Fae This helps tremendously.  So from your post I understand that desktops don't support VLAN assignment, therefore we have to set PVID.

What about if the child is connected through a single SSID?  For me to force that wireless client to VLAN 20, the only way is if I create a Kids SSID and assign that whole SSID to VLAN 20, right?

Right. If you use Omada EAP, you just need to enable VLAN and configure it as 20 when creating the Kids SSID on your Controller.
