Jetstream switches - ongoing major rate limiting bug
On multiple models of Jetstream switches, including TL-SG3428 and T1600-28PS (>=v3 only, v1 and 2 are ok), I've noticed that rate limiting a port results in it running extremely slowly regardless of the rate limit speed chosen. For example, if I rate limit to 499968Kbps in both direction on a single port, and then test the speed using iperf the result is 8.26 Mbits/sec. If I run the same iperf without rate limiting it's up to 900Mbps.
I posted about this once before here in relation to the T1600G v3 models, but ended up using v1 models off ebay as a workaround. Now a year later I want to use new hardware and assumed the TL-SG3428 wouldn't have the same issue, but sadly it does! I know it's not a config mistake on my part as the same config works perfectly on T1600G v1 models.
Attached are some screenshots showing results.
Question is, how and should I bother reporting this to TP-Link? Do they fix issues like this or should I change brand?

My doubt is correct. It's confirmed that the TL-SG3428(UN)_V2_2.0.9 Build 20221021 firmware has already provided the optimal solution to resolve the inaccurate bandwidth control issue in Ingress direction (the TX rate). If you need a switch with the absolutely accurate bandwidth control in Ingress direction, I'm sorry that the Jetstream switch cannot meet your demand, you may check whether Cisco can make it.

Thank you for your waiting. Here's the update for the case, so the issue has been located and it's confirmed to fix the issue in the subsequent firmware update on the TL-SG3428 v2, which should be available next month. Please wait patiently.

@Fae Hi, any update on when the bug fixed firmware will be released? I need to install a load of these switches next week but I'm nervous doing it without the firmware update as we have to have this feature working! Thanks

The TL-SG3428 v2 firmware is in the release process now, you may pay attention to the official website for the update.

The new firmware was released on the 18/11/22, so I have just installed it and tested the bandwidth limiting. Although it now doesn't reduce the port speed to a tiny speed whatever the setting, there is still an issue. If I set the bandwidth limit to 299968Kbps and then test using iperf, I notice that the bandwidth fluctuates up and down, and that the overall bandwidth test result is 247Mbps, not 299Mbps as expected.
For comparison I plugged in a V2 T1600G and did the same test and on that it worked as expected: the test speed shows as 299Mbps and it doesn't fluctuate during the test.
Please can you check with engineering what the issue is, and if it will ever be fixed truly? I've attached a screenshot showing the tests and different results.

According to the release note, the TL-SG3428(UN)_V2_2.0.9_20221021 firmware has improved the performance of Ingress Bandwidth Control. I doubt that its bandwidth control feature may not be able to work as such accurate so it can only be improved. Will try to check with engineering.

@Fae Any update? I need to make a call whether to switch to Cisco CBS220's for our install due to this long runnning bug.
