POE powered Switch or not? "TL-SG2008" No Power Adapter
Hi,
Does TP-Link have any POE powered switches that don't need any power adapters?
Like small 5-8 ports? and Omada compatible if possible. Have looked but uncertain of the data in the spec.
Thanks

Yes the TL-SG2008 has a PD input port. Its a great feature and you would think it would be advertised more.
Specs are here:
https://www.tp-link.com/ca/business-networking/omada-sdn-switch/tl-sg2008/#specifications
Under "Power Supply" - Obtain Power from PoE Source
Plus I have seen with my own eyes lol

Yes, i tried both port 1 and 8 and no luck but the cable is quite long so i just tried for fun and only bonus if it had worked.
Can you confirm the SE variant can be powered on the port 8 POE without a power supply?
Hardware information that OC Controller posts:
Model: TL-SG2008P v1.0S/N : 22121F0001154Firmware Version : 1.0.2 Build 20210806 Rel.55686
Kind note that TL-SG2008P is a different model from TL-SG2008.
The former is a PoE switch, it cannot work as a PD to be powered up via PoE, but can only power up other PDs.
The latter is a non-PoE switch, it can work as a PD to be powered up via PoE through the PD port (Port 8).
Edit:
TL-SG2008 V3 and above hardware version support Omada SDN.
TL-SG2008P V1 and above hardware version support Omada SDN.
For Omada Switches, you may check this link: https://www.tp-link.com/en/business-networking/all-omada/#omada-switch

@EIBROG
Thanks, yes agreed! should be adverticed alot more! :)
Power Supply | • 12 VDC/1 A External Adapter or • Obtain Power from PoE Source |
---|
I actually have installed this one at a customer and the POE source did not work as a power source and the reason for that is the length of the cable i guess. It's longer then 50-60meters so it was a "long"shot.
Thank will use these more.
EDIT:
Actually the reason i ask is because the information of the device is different once again depending on the region you read about it. I guess this feature is not available in the Swedish version?

@HA4g3n
oh wow - yeah they should have a model that explicitly has it and no regional differences for the same model number.

The information on the Sweden TP-Link website may be incorrect, I'll report this to the website team to check and correct it.

The link you attached above is for TL-SG2008P rather than TL-SG2008, by the way.

As you mentioned that you have installed this one, may I confirm the model number and hardware version of the switch you installed?
Do you connect the power source and the switch via the PD port (Port 8) on the switch?

@Fae
ahh okey, so TL-SG2008 is a smart switch that does not support Omada and POE out but POE-in.
And TL-SG2008P is a smart switch that do supports POE+ out and Omada Cloud but cannot be powered by a POEin but just a power adapter.
Thanks for that verification.
