Is it possible to combine the 2 WiFi bands instead of having seperate SSIDs.

Sure. You can have the same ESSID (WLAN name, often called SSID), but different BSSIDs (MAC addresses, unchangeable anyway).

Could you possibly explain what I need to do in the settings. As far as I can see I cannot see an option to combine bands. Thank you

Maybe we have a different idea what »combining bands« means. Just set the same SSID for both bands to combine them to one WiFi network. If this is not what you want, please explain what you exactly want to do.
