VLAN-PVID trouble on TPLink TL1600G-18TS
2018-09-17 01:42:11

I configured VLAN and PVID for switch TPLink TL1600G-18TS with detail as:

Port 1: tag vlan 10 and 20 ( connect to port trunk on switch cisco 3560)

Port 3 - 8: tag vlan 10 and PVID 10 (for PC access to vlan 10)

Port 9 - 16: tag vlan 20 and PVID 20 (for PC access to vlan 20)

After configured and connect to switch cisco 3560, i have trouble:

2 PC (set same network IP) connect to range port 3 - 8 ping together -> Result: Success

1 PC and 1 printer Xerox (set same network IP) connect to range port 3 - 8 ping together -> Result: Failed

Please help me to resolve !!!

Thank you very much.

The setting you mentioned, did you tagged all the port from 3-8? I mean normally, the PC cannot recognized the TAG.

We always set the port as untag when it connect to a end device like a PC.

So, I suggest you check the Egress rules of your VLAN setting and change it to untag.

You should understand, how vlan works. If you use tagged vlan on port for end-clients, it means that your host should know, how to work with tagged traffic. I do not understand, how 2 PCs can ping each other, if only you didn't configure tag on your PC's NIC (I use special realtek utility for that). If you didn't configure anything, then your untag traffic, which comes from PC1 will be marked with PVID (VLAN 10), transfered to port of PC2, but PC2 will not be able to accept this packet, as it is tagged. Probably, you have some configuration on PCs, if it works, however you definitely do not have such configuration for your Xerox. As it has been already said, use untag vlan for clients with the same PVIDs. Cheers.
