Hi Everyone,

I recently pulled offline about 15 of the TL-SG108PE "Easy Smart Switches" due to problems with VOIP audio drops and even some regular LAN Traffic.

Users were complaining about the audio drops - as those were immediatly apparent to them.

We purchased these to aid in multi-person offices (where normally there would be just one person.  But as usual I get asked..."we want to put two people in this office" (or more).   These were bought to power up two to three phones, a couple of computers, and of course be connected to the wall jack and finally to a server room switch.

Phones are Shoretel 480G with 802.3af POE.

We tried a few things to troubleshoot...checked firmware...moved swithes around...prioritized VOIP on phone ports...etc.   No luck...still audio drops.   We have a variety of these...from v1.0 to 2.0.   The problems were experienced on all "versions".   Pings would also occasionally fail to phones hanging on the switch.

All problems resolved with switches removed - so it's definitely an issue with these.

Has anyone else had persistent VOIP issues with these switches?   I REALLY like them in the above setting...perfect size for this application.   However, now they are just a stack of metal in my office.

Cheers,   Ed

We had intermittent packet loss withTL-SG108PE due to packet leaks from the VLANs caused by the fixed Default VLAN 1 assignment of all ports until TP-Link eventually changed firmware on behalf of feature requests from many customers and myself. See this thread for the gory details.

Which firmware do you use? Latest firmware version for v2 hardware is TL-SG108PEv2_en_1.0.0_[20180122-rel33333], which allows to remove ports from the Default VLAN 1 and also to assign VLAN 1 to tagged ports. Should install on v1 hardware as well.

Thanks for the reply - definitely an interesting read...

I'll have to check the firmware on each individual unit - however - I did look at several and they had the latest version that was listed on the support site's download list.   Most of mine are V1 but I did find a V2 in the pile....so I'll fire that one back up and see what it has.

Thanks!

Ed

You're welcome. Note that the V2 firmware also installs fine on V1 hardware. I have replaced the TL-SG108PE recently by a T1500G for other reasons, so I can't check the version, but if I remember correctly mine was a V1, too.

I'll try the v2 firmware on the v1 units.   I'm up and running on other solutions so its no hurry - but it sure was weird.   I pulled the last one today that was causing the same issues in a multi-person office.  It's also a v1.0.
