Do I need a Managed Switch?

Model :

Hardware Version :

Firmware Version :

ISP :

I needed more ethernet ports for all my networked devices, so I bought a cheap switch (TL-SG1005D) and hoped for the best.

Should I have bought a managed switch?

ISP: RCN
Cable Modem: Arris SB 6183
Switch: SG1005D
Device 1: Mac Pro running 10.11.6 connected to switch via cat5 (not working using DHCP)
Device 2: HDHomeRun Extend (converts OTA tv signal so it can be streamed over local network)
Device 3: Wireless Router: Apple Airport Extreme Base Station Model A1143 (Currently plugged into switch and WORKING PERFECTLY. Weird.)
Device 4: Philips Hue Hub (plugged into wireless router)
Device 5: Lutron Hub (plugged into wireless router)
Device 6: TP-Link AV1000 1-Port Gigabit Powerline Adapter (TL-PA7010 KIT)

I would like to be able to plug devices 1,2,3, and 6 into this switch.

Thank you in advance!
David

If the question arises wether you would need a managed switch, you actually don't need one. ;)

Seriously: as long as you just want to have more Ethernet ports than available on your cable router and need one network with all devices connected to each other device, an unmanaged switch will do the job. Advantage: it's plug and play, no setup needed. Dis-advantage: you can't do anything with it than just connecting devices.

If you rather want to split your network into several isolated subnetworks or need to partition bandwidth between devices or want to use link aggregation an Easy Smart Switch would be an ideal entry-level managed switch allowing for all this. Advantage: it can be configured. Dis-advantage: it must be configured. :)

Thank you R1D2!
I'm up and running.

I had the switch plugged into the cable modem, not the AEBS router. Like I said, Noob :)
