Hm, did you try update using the bootloader? Or could you manage to update using the web UI? If so, what is the "region" setting on the Wireless page?

The reviewer's claim about a WiFi signal not reaching more than 100 feet in LoS @ 500mW is complete bullshit. I'm able to bridge much longer distances with CPE210 at 100 mW even in a very crowded area. Furthermore, with 27 dBm TX power, total emission power is 27 dBm + 9 dBi = 36 dBm, that's 4 watts! Testing WiFi signal in a distance of 100 feet (~30m) with 4 watts is the same as having a conversation with your person next to you using a megaphone directed at his ears. Can't work this way!

I see. They probably hard-coded the TX power limitation for EU countries in the SoC-specific flash partition, so the firmware adapts its functionality to this limit.

Me thinks, it could be another regulation crap required from manufacturers by the EU bureaucrats in order to be able to sell gear in the EU. Too bad, but seems you have to buy an US model to get 27 dBm. I'm living in Europe, but I also bought US versions of certain technical stuff b/c of stupid EU regulations. Not that I use 27 dBm here in Germany, but I hate being ruled like a child when buying e.g. an iPod with volume regulations for EU kids. That's the famous "global market". :(

Yes, I can hardly imagine such restrictions on the business-class line, too. But, hey, take a look at the EAP110/120/220s - they now have been locked up for EU, although in firmware, not flash.
