Dear Customers,
This is the technical support engineer from TP-LINK, we have are summarized some improvements requirements for EAP series as below based on the deployed wi-fi projects, please feel free to comment on those improvements based on your experience or your understanding of the wireless products, any opinions about the EAP series will be appreciated.
1) The "load balance function" on the Controller, supports two kinds of settings including "Max Associated Clients" and "RSSI Threshold". In a large wi-fi network deployed with EAPs, it is suggested that this function be configured uniformly on the Controller and then be pushed to the APs but not configured one AP by one AP.
Set Max Associated Clients to keep the load of the EAP to a fair level.
[*]Use RSSI Threshold to kick-off the client with low signal strength and force them to reconnect to a nearby EAP for better performance.
[*]You may refer to the attackment_1 for reference.
2) EAP series products should support adjusting the transmitting power intelligently based on the wireless interference. At present, for adjusting the transmitting power in the application scenario, we need to consider both the wireless coverage and wireless interference, so it (adjusting the proper transmitting power manually) may be difficult.

3) Under the Map Tab of Controller, the APs on the AP listed can be listed in order or can be searched by adding searching button. At the moment, all EAPs are listed disorderly on the right side, so it is inconvenient and laborious to find out the right EAP on the disorder AP list and drag them to the map floor, especially for the large wi-fi project with hundreds of APs. The attachment_2 is for your reference.

4) Controller can be running as a service. At the moment, the Controller software need to be installed on the Server PC, but the administrator will set some restarting schedule for the Server PC, then the administrator will need to start and login the Controller again, which is inconvenient and unfriendly.

The problem with making the Load Balance settings uniform is not every install has uniform interference so each eap for optimal load balance would need an override to set some eap's differently.

The rest of the list is spot on :)

EAP Controller Software Improvement
2016-02-10 22:28:40
The TP-Link EAP220 and the Controller Software Work very Well. Great work in our intitial Deployement 12 APs all EAP220.

Improvement Request

1) The Controller Software Should Run as a Service on a Windows System (Especially on a windows Server). Allowing for Control of Larger Network Deployments easily.

2) Ability to Define a Portal Per VLAN on Controller. Allowing Unique Control over each VLAN. This allows a Hotel/Conference Centre to Manage Various activities on One Controller.

3) Controller Software to Run Under Linux so we could implement an Small System Like Intel NUC or Raspberry PI to act as the Dedicated Controller.

We have currently deployed: Control Software Ver 2.0.3 on Windows 2012R2 Server.

Thank you,
Jeff

Ideas to improvements...
2016-03-05 23:32:09
Is it allowed to come with ideas to improvements?

The AP-interface is always a part of the NON-VLAN network. There should be option to assign the APs interface to be a part of a VLAN.

In the AP menu example:
IP adresse: 192.168.1.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

And then:
VLAN: x

Vlan Management

I found the solution to the Management VLAN.

If your VLANs is like this:

1. Untagged-LAN 192.168.1.0
2. VLAN 10 192.168.10.x
3. VLAN 20 192.168.20.x
4. VLAN 30 192.168.30.x

In my case, I was only using VLAN 10, 20 and 30 and my setup on switchport to the AP like this: (HP)

UN-tagged: E
VLAN10: T
VLAN20: T
VLAN30: T
(And the AP the same... VLAN10-SSID1 = VLAN10 etc.)

Problem, no management available. But it works.

The right way to do it, is to let the switch do the 'work'

Set switch like this on the AP-port:
UN-tagged: E
VLAN10: U
VLAN20: T
VLAN30: T

Now the management LAN is VLAN10.
And set the SSID for VLAN 10, to VLAN0... (No VLAN)

/Michael.

Make API more responsive or share `com.tp_link.eap.web.portal.ExtPortalController` class code

Got 500 on accessing /extprotal/.../auth, Need a little more info about error, because message about NullPointerException and internal stacktrace doesn't help.

Add Login/Username to Clients
2016-05-19 13:52:35
Hi

wer are using EAP Controller with WPA-Enterprise. It would be great if the Clients/Devices could show it's Login Username.

Also a funktion to limit the Number of Device a User can have simultaneously ...

Greetings from Germany

@tplink

Put an option that will enable User/Clients can pause their time duration, or if not possible at least remaining time will be pause if the device is not in range or wifi is off. Mikrotik can do that why not tplink? cheers!

EAP Controller Software Improvement
2020-06-01 21:16:39

@TechAdventurer

The controller does run under Linux. I'm running it on a Raspberry Pi 2 for 5 APs (which is also running some other lightweight services).
Lots of tutorials online for how to do this.

@tplink

Please add DFS channel support for US units, like you did for EU.

Leave it up to users to decide if they want to turn them on or not, depending upon their environment, with suitable logging so that we can see how often these get turned off. In some cases, DFS will not be beneficial due to it being disabled too often, but in other cases DFS can be used with no issues.

The reason for this is that we only have 2 80MHz channels available presently.

Yes, I know we can use 40MHz and get 4 channels, but at half the PHY rate.

re: 4 controller as a service
I have no issues with the Omada software controller restarting under Linux on a Raspberry Pi.

edit: And I replied to a 5 year old thread. Sorry. :(
