Daily disconnection ER605
Daily disconnection ER605
My configuration: Netgear LB1110 LTE (configured as a modem), gateway ER605 V2 2.2.6 (Build 20240718 Rel.82712), switch TL-SG2428P, 2 EAP225 and the Omada software controller on a VM Proxmox container.
Hello,
I have now received my public IPV4 from the provider and was able to establish connections with the “Dynamic IP” setting. Dyn DNS has been set up and the connection is working. The Dyn-DNS service was set to a minimum of one hour in the ER605.
However, the WAN disconnects at the same time every day and Omada can no longer be reached. A new connection can only be achieved by unplugging the power supply.
I have read that there have been problems like this for years. But I have not yet been able to find a suitable solution. Mind you, maintaining the connection works with a static IP,
but then I can no longer use VPN connections.
What is the problem?
Unfortunately, it is also possible to access the ER605 interface by entering the public IPV4. How do I get around this?

Hi @Ricky_78
Thanks for posting in our business forum.
For years, we have not located this reason. Likely to be the ISP DHCP or PPPoE is not standard.
I have an existing case that we have debugged several times for 3 months so far. Located this to be the ISP not able to properly handle the DHCP. We only made adjustments based on that, but it persists. The previous ISP did not give this trouble in his environment.
Assuming your ISP might be the reason. This gonna requires you to give details about the disconnection behavior and Wireshark.
I believe a reconnection of the cable would fix it. You should monitor how long your dynamic IP refreshes. And their lease time.

Thank you for your reply,
which is unfortunately very sobering.
I have a mobile access point which brings the Internet into the house via 4G. I think it is possible that it is due to the ISP.
Another curiosity is that I can only establish my OPEN VPN connection once and not again after disconnecting. I have to
briefly deactivate and reactivate port forwarding to be able to reconnect.
All in all, unfortunately not a reliable solution for my project.

So the troubled ISP is 4G? Or regular landline fiber?
4G itself is wireless. If it is wireless, that could be unstable. I don't trust any long-range wireless unless it is analog. Celluar is infamous. At least I don't have much faith in them.
About the OVPN, briefly deactivate and connect again. How long does it take? The interval?

We live in Germany, and the network expansion is a disaster. They simply failed to expand to rural areas. At home, I don't have a DSL or fiber optic connection. So, wireless is only available via 4G. Yes, the stability leaves a lot to be desired. The way I see it, I won't be able to find a solution for flawless operation under the given conditions. I'll start logging the data traffic with Wireshark soon.

Im just curious - if you can maintain the connection with a static IP, do you have to change it (ie, is your WAN IP dynamic and changes sometimes?)
If your public IP truly is static i dont understand what you mean by VPNs not working ? they work fine with a static IP

I operate the ER605 with a static IP on the WAN side, the 4G modem provides a fixed IP for the WAN connection in bridge mode.
The public IP V4 changes at least daily, the DynDNS service has been activated in the ER605. I have no problems with maintaining the connection.
connection. Of course, VPNs do not work with it.
Case 2: If the ER605 receives the public IP V4 from the modem, i.e. the ER605 then runs with a dynamic IP. VPN connection works
but there are daily disconnections and the ER605 interface is accessible via the public IP, which I cannot accept because I am constantly under attack.
The DynDNS service has been activated too.
So I have to live without a VPN.
