I have 2 x EAP610 access points connected with POE to 2 different Cisco switches.  I have been experiencing outages where both access points disconnect from the network at the same time for no apparent reason.  When I check the ethernet ports on the switches, they are showing up but there are no mac addresses on them.  There are also no errors or drops on the network ports.

 

The access points are connected on vlan 1 (native) and wireless networks are using vlan tags.  Access points are connected to a software Omada controller on a different vlan.

 

I checked the logs on the Omada controller and the only two that I could find were:

Here are some further suggestions:

1. **Interference and Environment**:

Ensure that there is no new source of interference or environmental changes that could affect the wireless signal.

 

2. **Isolation Testing**:

If possible, isolate one of the problematic EAPs to a different network or location to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is environmental or specific to the device.

 

Since it requires a manual reboot, you can create a reboot schedule for the EAPs as a workaround.

Site View > Settings > Service > Reboot Schedule > Create New Reboot Schedule:

How can the EAP reconnect? Need a manual reboot, or will they reconnect automatically?

How often will the issue happen?

 

Please also refer to the following to do some troubleshooting:

  • Ensure that the Cisco switches are providing sufficient and stable PoE power to the EAP610 access points. Check the PoE budget on the switches to confirm they are not overloaded.
  • Test the access points with a PoE injector to rule out PoE-related issues.
  • A network loop or broadcast storm could cause intermittent disconnections. Verify that Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) is enabled on the switches to prevent loops.
  • Test the Ethernet cables connecting the access points to the switches. Replace them if necessary.
  • Swap the switch ports to rule out port-specific issues.

 

If the issue persists, consider enabling LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) on the switches and EAP610 access points to ensure proper communication and topology discovery.

Thanks for getting back to me. To answer your questions:

- Once they disconnect, they don't come back until they are rebooted.

- It seems pretty random. Sometimes it's everyday, sometimes it's every couple of weeks.

 

For your troubleshooting steps:

- POE seems fine. I am using 15.4W out of a budget of 125W.

- I don't have a PoE injector to try. Since it happens at the same time with two APs connected to two different switches, I suspect that it isn't a PoE issue.

- Spanning tree is enabled but I did notice some issues with an IP address flapping between two different mac addresses on a different Vlan. I'll look into STP and that

- Cables have already been tested and replaced in one case and re-terminated in the other.

- I will try different ports but suspect that this isn't the issue since it happens on multiple switches.

- I have just enabled LLDP

 

I have also switches one of the APs from DHCP to static to see if that helps.

 

I should also mention that when this first occurred, I only had a single AP installed but I had a second ready to install. I removed the old AP and installed the new one and the issues occurred again. I then installed the other AP on a different switch and the issue started happening on both switches.
