Hello guys,

I have recently upgraded my internet line to Fiber to the home. I want to get rid the ISP router so i want to setup the  PPPoE to the ER605 interface but using the correct creds i am getting the below

2025-02-10 13:37:26 pppoe_client[2563]: <5> 08214206 WAN1: PPPoE session is over
2025-02-10 13:37:26 pppoe_client[2563]: <5> 08214212 WAN1: PPPoE connection was disconnected by peer. (AC-MAC=00-00-00-00-01-00, Session-ID=0x0b98)
2025-02-10 13:37:26 ppp[2563]: <5> 02313111 WAN1: the peer request to disconnect PPP
2025-02-10 13:37:26 ppp[2563]: <5> 02313103 WAN1: ojfhk71sx authenticated.
2025-02-10 13:37:26 ppp[2563]: <5> 02313101 WAN1: LCP negotiation succeeded. (MTU=1492, AUTH=<null>)
2025-02-10 13:37:23 pppoe_client[2563]: <5> 08214211 WAN1: PPPoE Discovery phase negotiation succeeded. (AC-MAC=00-00-00-00-01-00, Session-ID=0x0b98)
2025-02-10 13:37:21 pppoe_client[1683]: <5> 08214202 WAN1: PPPoE began connecting automatically

Note the i have previously configured the same method with another ISP and i had no issues

Any ideas?

The connection is authenticating and then being disconnected by the ISP access concentrator.

Its possible that the connection is 'locked' to the MAC address of the ISP supplied router. If that's the case then you ought to be able to use the MAC cloning to set the ER605 to the MAC address of the ISP router.

Check with your ISP. Or schedule a reboot at night. PPPoE usually takes 24 hrs to authenticate.

@MisterW ISP says this is not the case, my guess at this point is that maybe there is a missmatch in the authentication protocols.

Can you guide me how to MAC clone to give it a try?

  @Pdvs

Details of how to set the MAC address for the ER605 WAN port are on Page 33 of the user guide.

How to find the MAC address of the ISP router will depend on what make/model it is. It MIGHT be shown somewhere on a label

From you first post, the log would seem to indicate that the PPPoE connection has authenticated successfully but then gets disconnected by the ISP for some reason

If cloning the MAC doesnt change anything , then I suspect its down to using Wireshark to trace the PPPoE negotiation in more detail.

You can use the port mirroring ( Page 35 ) to mirror the WAN port to an unused LAN port and connect a device running Wireshark to that port
