Hey,

I am setting up a SX3008F Switch as my 10GBe Backbone Switch replacement and would like to use it as a DHCP Server as well. It'll replace another standalone dnsmasq DHCP server in my network.

Basic DHCP functionality seems to work fine, but I am unable as of now to use the "Manual Binding" feature in the DHCP Server Config on the switch. BTW I am trying this in standalone mode right now, no Omada controller as of yet.

For testing purposes there are no other VLANs created on the switch except for the system vlan1.

Testing network is 10.0.187.0/24. In the DHCP Server config on the web interface I created 3 Pools to structure the net for better organization:

Pool 1 and 3 should assign "static" IPs only to pre-defined end devices under "manual binding". Pool 2 should be used as standard DHCP pool with dynamic IP adresses.

So I wend ahead and added devices under "Manual Binding" with my respective IP/Mac Adress mappings like this for Pools 1 and 3:

Detailed example for 10.0.187.3:

Alright, so I enabled the DHCP Server and wanted to test if the "Manual Binding" works for the specified adresses, but it does not. the defined devices under "Manual Binding" still get a dynamic IP from the Pool 2 entry. Basically my manual bindings are ignored.

Any ideas what I am missing here?

Thanks,

raptor

Hi @raptorq99,

It's been a while since using Web UI, but I think you just need to delete the static1 and static2 entries in the DHCP pool config.

Hey DC,

thanks for the reply. Well are you saying I can only use one Pool if I want to manually bind IP adresses? Does it have to be the whole Class C net /24 then? Or do you mean that the manually bound adresses must not belong to any defined pool?

Edit: Alright, I figured it out :-) Thanks to your suggestion I deleted the 2 other subnets and used only one pool for 10.0.187.0/24. To make sure only 10.0.187.101-199 are used for dynamic DHCP I added the rest of the subnet, which I wanna use static (manually bound) to the "Excluded IP Adress Config". Seems to work, tested two devices that are in the manually bind list, and both receive the DHCP IP that I defined. Will have to test the dynamic part now, but I am pretty sure that should work as well.

Take care,

raptor

Yes, @raptorq99, my understanding is the manually bound adresses must not belong to any defined pool.

The pool would contain ranges of ip addresses available to assign dynamically only.  Multiple pools allow for non-contiguous ranges if needed and the reserved or static IP values would not overlap with the any of the ranges in the pool.  That's how it's always worked for me so I never thought to do it any differently.

Hey, alright, but that's different here from what I see. If I add an entry in "Manual Binding" I HAVE TO select a pool. You can't have that field empty. So for me, right now that tested manually bound IPs are in the only pool that I have left which is "static1" for 10.0.187.0/24. And as I said, this seems to work. Tested with 2 devices that I defined in Manual Binding. raptor

@raptorq99, I've not use the DHCP feature built into the switch much and seems the TP-Link logic is a little different than other services I use regularly.  I wrongly assumed it was the same, so appologies for any confusion.

How does your DHCP server look like?

Besides, have you released the IP after you set the IP-MAC binding?

The device will only get the new IP after the previous one is released.

I think you need VLAN for this as well.

DHCP query is answered by the first server that responds. I think you are placing everything in VLAN 1 and three DHCP servers(?), there is an issue with this.
