Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

We just purchased this. We can only run one device off it. When we have the tv plugged in the switch works fine and as soon as we plug the computer in we lose internet on the tv. If we have the computer plugged into to switch it works fine. But if we plug the tv into the switch we lose internet on the tv. The computer and tv work fine without the switch and plugged directly into the internet port in the wall.

help please?

Hi @Kimberley_j87,

I'm guessing that you needed to get a router and not a switch.  Check where the internet port on the wall goes.  If it doesn't lead to a device that has ports the may look like this...

then you probably don't have a router.  Depending on your internet provider you will commonly see one of the following...

  1. COAX Cable -> Cable Modem -> Ethernet (Internet/Net/Feed)
  2. Fiber Cable -> Optical Network Terminal -> Ethernet (Internet/Net/Feed)

At this point, you need to connect a router.  If you add a switch, you will only be able to use one device.  Many routers include a switch and wifi for adding multiple devices.  The pic above has a 4-port switch (yellow LAN ports); the blue WAN port plugs into the internet.

Thank you for your reply.

We do have a router.

and our set up is

  1. Fiber Cable -> Optical Network Terminal -> Ethernet (Internet/Net/Feed)

The router is in the garage where our fibre box is.

We are wanting to add additional internet  ports in the lounge wall  so thought the switch would solve this problem?

@Kimberley_j87 if the switch is connected to the "lan" port on the router and the router "wan" port is connected to the ONT it should work.

If everything is plugged in correctly, try plugging two devices into the router "lan" ports and see if that works  (i.e. ,bypass your new switch)

It's technically possible for a router to not allow you to extend the network, but that usually only done in businesses. I assume this is a private residence.,

  @D-C

the router is in the garage where the fibre box is. We don't want it in the lounge as it's big and ugly 🤣 ( much to my partners disgust lol) I'm trying to find a solution so we can have more than one device hardwired to internet.

we have plugged the switch into to one internet port we have in the lounge wall.

when we plug any device into the port without the switch it works fine.

when we plug one device into the switch it also works fine it's just when we add a second device.

@Kimberley_j87,

Recommend double/tripple checking wiring especially the cable between the ONT and the router WAN Port.

Fiber Cable -> Optical Network Terminal -> Cable -> Router WAN Port

Router LAN Port -> Cable -> Switch -> (Cable -> Device)x4

Technically, you should be able to replace the big ugly box with the small ugly box

  @D-C

are you saying there no solution other than to have the switch plugged into the router?

is there no other possibility to have more than one connection in the lounge?

@Kimberley_j87, lol... to to be specific...

Router(Garage) LAN Port -> Cable that goes from garage to Lounge Internet Port -> Lounge Internet Port -> Cable -> Switch(Lounge) -> (Cable -> Device)x4

@Kimberley_j87 then if the WAN Port is connected to the ONT, it should work. If you have a techie friend, it might be time to bribe them with a 6-pack for some help.

  @D-C definitely connected because if we don't have the switch and plug directly into wall port it's all good
