We have users replacing their ISP-provided modem with an SFP module.

But this depends on your ISP.
You have to address at least two issues at this moment:

1. Specs of the fiber from your ISP.

2. If they require a modem or you are allowed to bypass the modem to make a direct connection.

This is software. Tells nothing about the fiber you have.

As replied earlier, you should know them from your ISP before you pick a module.

If you have a single-mode fiber, get a single-mode, and choose the proper fiber wavelength.

Single mode? That's just the interface. I've seen people using this.

You need to know about the module mode.

You don't know the fiber mode, what do you want to choose?

You know the mode before you choose the module.

Single mode, pick the single mode module. Do not choose the model number containing A and B because they are used in pairs.
