Model: TL-SG3428X
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.30.2

Team,

About 4-6 weeks ago the switches received the latest firmware.

Since then, every (scheduled) reboot leaves some of them in a disconnected state.

The EAP's and the router are always coming back in the connected state.

Even when the switches they are connected to have a disconnected state.

Switching the disconnected switches off and on doesn't bring them back in a connected state.

The same applies when restarting the controller.

What makes this interesting is that the ping to the IP addresses mentioned in the controller works.

In addition the behavior of the network is also as expected - this includes lights-off, vlans, ACL's and PoE.

Based on this it looks like the running config before the scheduled reboot is active.

Also because the connected EAP's and router are showing "connected".

The only way to get the switches connected again is a reset to factory defaults.

Which is rather annoying - in particular for the switch model mentioned previously.

Because a reset to factory defaults can only be done via the console cable.

Does this ring any bells?

Any suggestion on getting them connected again without a factory reset?

With warm regards,

- Will

Hi @ITV

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

Looks like you did not visit the forum recently. There was a new release weeks ago and it was pulled off due to some technical issues. Others experienced the same or similar issues.

Your version seems to be the affected one. Recommend you downgrade the firmware.

What versions are recommended?

Because I have multiple switches/models with this issue.

For example the SG2218's and SG2008P's have all the same issue.

I have noticed beta versions from July this year.

Which are newer then the versions I'm currently running.

The firmware versions on the support link/site varies.

Some are newer then what I'm currently running.

Others are older - the previous version for the SG3428X goes back to 2023.

Any suggestions?

I don't maintain lists of previous versions.

Are you in a position to share any known issues with beta versions released in June this year?

Post: https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/671478

Other question I have: can a factory reset also be done via SSH-login?

First, as you asked, I don't recommend any firmware as I don't keep every model in my inventory or my test bench. What I learned is based on what you feedback or the problem notification from the internal message.

It is always recommended to revert to the last firmware you remember or if you don't, the latest firmware you can find on the official website.

Such a specific thing, if you ask me, I don't really have a comment.

Second, read the topic and see if there is any issue reported. As far as I know, it is stable enough as it has not been pulled off.

If that worries you, why not consider the latest official release on the website? Popping up a question like this, which different people may face different situations. Even the same firmware, for different people, have different experiences. I don't think I can really give you a definite answer to this. The literal meaning of it is a beta for testing and it might contain stability or compatibility issues. That's the premise of that thread.

The SSH thing, if you had enabled the SSH before, of course, you can reset it via the CLI with the matching commands. The SSH is disabled as I recall, by default settings.

When it comes to beta's I only was expecting something like "to the best of my knowledge".

Because as you where mentioning - issues may vary significantly.

And not all issues might be a like "system-down" condition.

Normally I would only use the version in the stable channel and download that from the website.

However, this wasn't possible for the SG3428X as the 1.30.0 version is not available for download.

Meaning I needed to go back to 1.0.12 - which then came with a message about upgrading to 1.30.0.

I'm aware SSH being disabled by default.

But based on the current experience I'm considering enabling ssh on all customers and in addition disable the fall-back IP option.

Meaning all devices should allways come back with their IP in the management vlan; ideally with ssh enabled.

Which can then be used for further troubleshooting and worksrounds.

And finally:

Thank you for your support and honest feedback - really appreciated!

For the firmware download, like I always wrote, if it is not about wireless, refer to the global web for the latest firmware.

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/sg3428x/#Firmware

I think you find 1.30.0 there. Downgrade to a version that dates back far might not be wise because its kernel might be different which can lead to a failure. Just a reminder.
