Model: EAP615-Wall
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I am considering installing the TP-Link EAP 615 Wall outlet. I’d like to know if it’s possible to mount it as a surface-mounted device (without chiseling the wall for a back box and cables).

From the pictures, it seems like wall mounting might be an option, but I’m unsure how to connect the input cable from the back in such a setup. Could someone clarify how this can be done?

If this model doesn’t support surface-mounted installation, could you recommend any other TP-Link models that allow for this type of setup? Alternatively, are there any methods to achieve a surface-mounted configuration for this device?

Thank you for your help!

Hi@Revvers

Wall mount is not a must. You can install the EAP at your convenience.

What do you mean by surface-mounted?

We also have ceiling-mount EAPs, all the EAPs can be put on a desk to use.

You may have a look:

By surface-mounted, I mean installing the device directly onto the surface of the wall without recessing it or chiseling into the wall to create space for a back box or hidden cables. Essentially, the device would sit on top of the wall with any necessary connections (like power or data cables) also managed externally.

Is there any kind of stand or base available for the EAPs to allow them to be positioned vertically on a desk? I’d like to know if there’s a way to securely mount them upright.

Depending on how flexible your ethernet cable is, because it's a pretty sharp turn coming off the back of the wall APs, I often just use standard surface mount electrical boxes...the EAP mounting plate fits nicely to these.

The Leviton is deeper than than the Wiremold, but the latter is made of metal and looks sharper.  You can cheat a bit and pull the cable sheathing back when you crimp the RJ45, so you are only bending the actual wires, gives you a very tight shallow 90' bend.  Definitely out of spec for 'proper cable management' but so close to the connector it won't matter a bit speedwise.

@d0ugmac1 Thank you, but it seems that the mentioned products are not available in my country (Poland).

However, this gave me an idea, and I found some 3D printing models that allow for wall or desk mounting.

It's a pity that TP-Link doesn't offer such products for sale. Now I just need to find someone who can print these for me. I’ve already noticed that there are online companies providing such services.
