Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.1.2 Build 20230210 Rel.62992

Hi - I am trying to connect 2 subnets - 1 Home and the other Office. Each subnet has it's own Verizon CR1000A router for internet access

1st Configuration tried:

Home - Subnet 192.168.1.0/24

Office - Subnet 192.168.2.0/24

Here is what I have tried:

VLAN1

      IP address 192.168.2.4

      Mask 255.255.255.0

      Ports 2,3,4 untagged

      PVID 1

VLAN2

      IP Address 192.168.1.4

      Mask 255.255.255.0

      Ports 5 untagged

      PVID 2

With this config I can ping the router from either side but cannot send traffic through. I tried adding static routes and nothing happened. All systems on either side allow ping including the Verizon routersCat6e cables connected to port 4 for 192.168.2.0 network and port5 for 192.168.1.0 network

2nd Configuration tried:

LAN1

      IP address 192.168.2.4

      Mask 255.255.255.0

      DHCP enabled

WAN1

      Set for dynamic IP

Connected status and IP/DNS etc applied. Cat6e cable connected to the router WAN port and to the switch on the 192.168.1.0 network

With this config I can ping systems on the other 192.168.1.0 subnet from the Web UI using the router diagnostics, but I cannot ping or connect to any computer on 192.168.1.0 from any computer on 192.168.2.0

I've been messing with this for HOURS trying different configurations and nothing has worked. I unfortunately have little experience in this area so I'm hoping that someone with more experience can help me. I feel like I'm missing something very basic here - it shouldn't be this difficult

The question is, is using 2 VLans each connected to a different subnet the way to configure this? If this is NOT the right way then how do I configure it? I just want the office and home networks to be able to communicate across the ER605 router.

So the only reason that the ER605 is here, as your previous expectation, to connect two modem routers. It is not intended to be used as a router for Internet and VLAN interface. Just as a bridge to connect two modem routers?

This is of course not a proper way to do it.

It is not possible to do it via LAN routing.

Hi @StortechRich

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

You might want to specify your diagram.

If you only want to route based on the WAN ports, you have Policy Routing to get different VLANs on different WANs.

@Clive_A  - I have included a diagram of the layout. It seems simple enough but I must be missing something because I cannot get the 2 subnets to talk to each other. Maybe I'm going about it entirely the wrong way.

The diagram looks strange. So there are two VLAN interfaces created on the router? And on the LAN of ER605, you have two modem router?

I don't understand the whole diagram when you marked it out as "WAN Not Connected".
