High Channel Utilization (64% 2,4GHz) with just 3 clients
Hello,
I recently purchased an EAP245 and placed it in the middle of my flat. But the coverage was not good in the corners, so I bought another EAP235 and place each of them in the opposite corner of my flat.
My flat is not that big, but we have very big concrete walls (Im from germany), so the signal is blocked kinda hard. If I just use one AP in a corner, the coverage is about 70% of the flat.
Now to my problem:
I have a very high channel utilization on one of the APs (EAP235), but it only has 3 clients. First I thought, okay maybe some neighbours are blocking that channel and I switched the channel from auto to 1. Same results, them from one to 6, and again same result and then from 6 to 13 and again, same result. The utilization is usually at around 60-90%.
So it cant really be a neighbour or something else, since then a channel swap should help.
I downloaded a wifi analyzer app and checked it. On Channel 13 is only my WiFi.
Anyone has an idea what it could be?
Here are some screenshots:
Wifi Analyzer App:
Wifi-715086 is mine. The EAP235 is sending on channel 11, the EAP245 on channel 1.
Thats the EAP 235:
and thats the EAP245:
And you can feel that the channel is busy. We have a babyphone thats sending on 2.4GHz and the connection is bad. Its always loosing signal, the stream is lagging etc
Anyone can help me?

Hey, I send back the EAP and orderd a new EAP653.
And yes, it was probably a hardware issue with the old one. Now my network is totally fine and I am at 22% utilization (even though BOTH APs send on the same channel).
Thank you a lot!

Hi @Introser
We release a new firmware yesterday.
Please update your EAP235-WALL and see if the issue persists.

Hi, you can update it directly.
EU version works in Germany and the DE website hasn't been updated yet.
As you can see, all official firmware on DE website are EU versions.

@Vincent-TP Hi Vincent, this release says eap230-wall and not eap235-wall. Is this firmware compatable with both the 230 and the 235?
Thanks Lee...

I installed it and nothing changed sadly.
I reduced the Tx Power to low and its a bit better. It went down to around 30-40% Utilization. But it is still not very good and I have problems from time to time

Hi @Introser
It looks like the new version makes more sense for channel utilization.
Now that you still have wireless issues, you may do further wireless optimization on that EAP.
It is not recommended to use the same channel as the EAP245 because the wireless environment is different when both are installed in different locations.
Below is a guide:
How to optimize wireless performance of EAP products
If it's no help, please let us know what you tried and the results.

Hey, I ran both APs on different channels. So that shouldnt be a problem.
I upgraded to the firmware, that you linked:

I further more reduced the Tx Power to low, it helped a bit and I got the utilization down to 20% yesterday. But I checked it now again and Im back at 60%.
I did everything in your guide, reran the WLAN optimization and it is still not better

Hi, there may be something wrong with this EAP‘s’ hardware. Please get in touch with your retailer, or the technical support of your region to check warranty.
