Model: TL-SG1218MPE
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.0.0 Build 20230616 Rel.57668

Hi everyone,

I have set up two TL-SG1218MPE switches on different floors of a building. Both switches are configured in a port channel.

On Floor 1, the switch is connected to 3 Unifi APs (PoE-based AC LR), and on Floor 2, the switch is connected to 3 Unifi APs, a DVR, and a biometric device.

Everything was working fine for the first 10 days, but after that, I noticed an issue where all the remaining ports stop functioning after a few hours.

They do not assign IP addresses, and the PoE supply is cut off. We have provided static IPs to the switches, but their GUI becomes inaccessible

when this issue occurs. Every time I need to access the switches, I have to restart them.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem or how to resolve it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards,

Najmu.S

 Hi  @Clive_A

As i checked the Specification of this switch it shows that it supports STP as the option in the portal is Loopback Prevention also we checked with the unfi as we dont have the Mesh option Enabled in controller Unfi Team said that if the Ap is mesh is enabled or Disabled it will not make loop as There controller is Having its own STP , RSTP   Please Guide to Help Further

Which specs did you read that this model supports STP? Spanning Tree Protocol.

STP is not the same concept as loopback prevention.

Controller, if it is not a product that plays a switching in the network, whether it has an STP or not, it has nothing to do.

You can consider replacing this switch or a different one to test with the same setup.

Hi @NajmuSakib

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

Can the restart fix the problem? If so, that does not seem to be a hardware issue.

Then we should consider if it is a problem with the loop. This switch does not support STP which means you cannot stop the loopback automatically.

Recommend you review your network physical connections.

Does your AP mesh?

I recommend you remove them for testing purposes. If they mesh, they might create a loop.

As your network diagram is as simple as that, the only thing that could do to the network is the AP mesh which creates the loop.

Add a managed switch which is capable of STP/RSTP, or consider not mesh them as you have connected them via the Eth cable.
