Model: EAP653
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Team,

See attached screenshot:

If I do a product comparison between the EAP650 en EAP653 it shows a line with bluetooth.

However, the spec-sheet and manual doesn't mention this capability.

Is this really available?

And if yes - what is it used for?

Cheers - Will

It's available, however currently there is no function can use this bluetooth hardware. It's a preinstall hardware.

Our software engineers will keep updating the features and one day we may be able to use bluetooth to manage the EAPs.

  @Fae

Besides managing EAP's via bluetooth there are also a few other use cases I can think of.

Depending on the hardware there is this High Accuracy Distance Measurements (HADM) capability.

Which seems to be part of the BLE specs.

This can be used to improve roaming and load-balancing as it allows distance measurements between the client and the EAP and between different clients.

A more commercial use case would be target ads: people who are connected to a "VIP-WiFi" can receive messages with special offers when standing in front of certain products or services. For example somebody standing in front of the reception of an hotel (for check-in) receives a discounted dining offer for the restaurant in the hotel.
