SFP WAN of GATEWAY is down - precise meaning needed
Hi:
In my installation when the SFP WAN connection fails the following messages show in the controller
(error icon) [SFP WAN] of GW-CORE is down.
(info icon) [Failed]GW-CORE: PPPoE user@domain failed to connect to the server because sending PADI times out.
all this is fine, until you consider that multiple SFP devices, particularly fiber or even Ethernet ones might crash, because they have full blown operating systems inside, may be rebooted independently.
So what the above mesasges mean exactly ? that the pppoe connection went down *ONLY* right ? (the equivalente of ifdown pppN) this is almost useless..because you know what happens when the device itself crashes or is misconfigured ? the same thing. PADI timesout SFP WAN is down.
So, It will be awesome if the device could send a message to the logs when the lower layer link is disrupted or the device is no longer there.. (either was removed, or the internal in-sfp-device watchdog rebooted the device)
