Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.3 Build 20230413 Rel.55948

Hello,

I have succesfully established OpenVPN Client-to-Site VPN in Certificate+Account mode, but I have been limited in speed. With L2TP/IPSec VPN or PPTP VPN to the same site I am able to reach 3MB/s but with OpenVPN just 1,5MB/s. Is it maximum speed for ER605 V1 for OpenVNP? Could different router (ER7206/ER707-M2) help?

  @Libik

Literally any other TPlink router will be significantly faster than the ER605v1, assuming the site supports it. Though for instance, the 7206 states the max throughput for OpenVPN is ~30Mbps while the exact some box will do over 300Mbps in L2TP/IPsec.  OpenVPN performance is currently terrible on all TPlink routers...you'd be better off going with Wireguard if supported (but we're all waiting for Wireguard on ER605v1...and I'm beginning to think it can't happen because of hardware issues).

I would test direct from your laptop with the same OpenVPN credentials to understand what the 'theoretical' throughput of your internet connection to the VPN server is before investing in more hardware though.

Hello, I know that any other router will be faster, but OpenVPN throughput is not written in datasheet. I know my max VPN speed, problem is, that even ER605 could achieve two times faster speeds with L2TP/PPTP.
