On my home network I have a TL-SG108PE switch and I'm looking for a new switch powered BY ethernet (for a location where it's not handy to run power). Does anyone have any suggestions as I don't believe tp-link offer such a switch.

I was looking at UniFi products https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B086L7RJ3Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1YL60AKFX74Z6&psc=1 or https://www.amazon.co.uk/UBIQUITI-Networks-NanoSwitch-Gigabit-Ethernet/dp/B079SPW2QL/ref=psdc_430573031_t3_B086L7RJ3Q but don't know if they would be compatible.

Any suggestions welcome, TIA.

Hey

There really isnt much choice in POE passive switches, but the ubiquiti you mentioned I have come accross before and it generally seems to work well!

The other option, should you want to keep the switch managed would be to use a POE injector / Seperator to power any switch you want at the far side.    Incase you havent come accross these before, they inject POE over a cable, then at the other side remove it and allow you to plug your device into it.   Fundamentally you can power anything that is low enough wattage.

I believe NETGEAR has one small PoE-powered smart switch. You may also like to consider a PoE AP that comes with extra RJ45 ports, like EAP655-Wall. Its switch is basically unmanaged, but it allows you to associate individual ports with VLANs.

The TL-SG2008 v3 can be powered by PoE on port 8. I've been using it that way for a few months because I had limited power outlets.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I had a slight rethink and I think I'm going to run a Deco X50-POE from the TL-SG108PE switch and connect the second ethernet port from there to a switch with a power supply.
