Omada mDNS Repeater + Chromecast
Omada mDNS Repeater + Chromecast
Hello, (Hardware below)
I currently have 2 separate networks in different VLANs with an AP plugged to one port. In order to block the traffic across the VLAN's I used ACL to deny all traffic. In a separate thread here, I asked if it's possible to simply deny the traffic because they are in separate VLAN's without using ACL... : https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/593596?page=1
I am attempting to access my Chromecast which is on the IofT VLAN. I am wondering if it's possible to use the mDNS feature to do so?
I added " _googlecast._tcp.local" to bonjour services, and then created an mDNS service, with the Chromecast as the VLAN SERVICE NETWORK and my laptop as the VLAN CLIENT NETWORK. But I still could not cast to the chromecast. Please let me know if this is possible?
Thanks.

Hello, this is still not working for me, unable to cast from the client network to the service network, with MDNS set up. The firmware for my er7206 was upgraded to 1.3, but i am having the same issue.
Anything else I should try? Is there a new setting that was released that I missed?

Wanted to follow-up as this thread helped me get started. I had the same issue as @Domada. You have to enable 'Multicast Filtering' and 'Filtering Protocols: Mdns' under the service's network WLAN SSID page.

@JRSPHD Can you clarify what this does? Filtering sounds like it would block the mDNS from the service VLAN?

@JRSPHD This is still not working for me. I put the Chromecast in the Service Network, and my streaming device in the client network, turned on mdns filtering on the service network through wlan like suggested.

@nRayAffair - sorry, no, I'm a networking hack at best. Unsure of what's happening behind the scenes. I read the help balloon and interpreted its wording as "will start routing Multicast service IDs if checked."
@Domada - I only required these three gateway ACLs (pretty standard config). Chromecasts are in IoT and accessible through the others. Note, I'm not using a smart switch nor implementing EAP ACLs.
