Omada mDNS Repeater + Chromecast
Omada mDNS Repeater + Chromecast
Hello, (Hardware below)
I currently have 2 separate networks in different VLANs with an AP plugged to one port. In order to block the traffic across the VLAN's I used ACL to deny all traffic. In a separate thread here, I asked if it's possible to simply deny the traffic because they are in separate VLAN's without using ACL... : https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/593596?page=1
I am attempting to access my Chromecast which is on the IofT VLAN. I am wondering if it's possible to use the mDNS feature to do so?
I added " _googlecast._tcp.local" to bonjour services, and then created an mDNS service, with the Chromecast as the VLAN SERVICE NETWORK and my laptop as the VLAN CLIENT NETWORK. But I still could not cast to the chromecast. Please let me know if this is possible?
Thanks.

May I know the firmware version of ER7206?
Please also tell us the version of your controller.
Did you set mDNS on the controller either?
We have a guidance for this feature, please check this: mDNS Repeater

1.2.3 |

5.7.4

Of course.
I tried it every which way, on the gateway as well.. Still nothing. Is there some further updates that need to be done on Omadas end? Perhaps a mDNS snooping feature that can detect this? As I understand it, mDNS is set to a TTL value of 1, meaning it should only stay on the local network, but a repeater is supposed to allow the traffic to cross communicate vlans, so not sure why this isn't working.
Please review the CISCO guide on their system here on how they got it done. It seems like Omada is missing something. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wireless-mobility/119017-config-chromecast-mdns-wlc-00.html

Thanks for your feedback about this issue in the community.
We have confirmed with the Support team that the current Controller V5.7 does support setting up Bonjour Services, but the latest firmware version 1.2.3 of ER7206 does not yet support mDNS+Bonjour Services.
It will support this in ER7206 next firmware release, so stay tuned!

Thank you Hank, I will wait for the firmware upgrade. Please note, Cisco has adopted the following fix for the TTL issue;
'In order to address this issue, the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) acts as a Bonjour Gateway. The WLC listens for Bonjour services, caches these Bonjour advertisements (AirPlay, AirPrint etc.) from the source/host. For example, Apple TV and responds back to Bonjour clients when they ask/request for a service. This way you can have the sources and clients in different subnets.. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/wireless-lan-controller-software/210835-Troubleshooting-mDNS.html
This is what I hope the firmware upgrade for the router will fix via gateway on mDNS, as the AP mDNS service is not functioning.
