Model: CPE710
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 2.2.1

We recently upgraded our park internet service to gigabit. Starting at modem..  Modem > Router > Switch > EAP610-OD ....  3x EAP225-OD.

Using a laptop wired to each, I tested speed at the modem, router and switch. I get full up/down.

My issue is slow rate on my end. I have one CPE710, lets call it CPE710 #1, connected in client mode to the EAP610-OD. CPE710 #1 and same laptop mentioned above are wired to the my router. At laptop I am averaging about 180Mbps down and 400Mbps up.

In an attempt to eliminate my router and the EAP610-OD as the issue I added a second CPE710, lets call it CPE710 #2. I set up CPE710 #2 in AP Mode and wired it to the parks switch port, where I have already confirmed full up/down performance. I set up CPE710 #1 in client mode and connected to CPE710 #2. Complete clear line of sight and distance of a little less than 200 feet. Signal shows excellent and reports 780rx rate link.   CPE710 #1 is wired directly to the laptop.  All ports and ethernet adapter show 1000 FD but I still average around 180/400 down/up.

So this point I was thinking it was CPE710 #1. So I took CPE710#1 out of the loop and put CPE710 #2 in its place in client mode connected to EAP610-OD. Laptop again wired to the CPE. Same average 180/400.

So it seems the CPE710 is the issue but both of them?  I should also note that prior to getting gigabit, we had 300/30 service. With the same setup of my CPE710 connected in client mode to the EAP610-OD, I get the full 300mbps down and 30 up, actually close to 400 down.

Pulling my hair out trying to figure out why performance is so bad. What can I check next?

  @RickJamesBish so I ordered two Ubiquiti Gigabeam Airmax AC and put them in place of the two CPE710 and WOW!!! I rough aimed, went inside and got a speedtest from my PC where I usually got 180 to mid 200Mbps with the CPE710s and got a solid 850Mbps. I then used a game download that I got an average of 43MB/s with the CPE710s and got 98.3 MB/s.  I was initially impressed with the CPE710 setup but this has shown me you get what you pay for. The CPE710 just can't deliver what I was expecting. I don't know if one or both of the units are having issues but I have factory reset, swapped out cables and given them every advantage possible but they just don't deliver for me. Now I am considering slowly selling off all the TP-Link hardware in our network and replacing with Ubiquiti.

  @RickJamesBish

Could that be PoE injector's issue?

On CPE710 web interface there is a SpeedTest tool. Try set up CPE710 #2 AP as the server and CPE710 #1 Client as the client, it will test the wireless link speed between two CPEs.

Also you can use Iperf to test the speed from main router side to client side:

  @Somnus Set them up again and tested. Also note that I used the same cable for all testing. Better results when going between the two but still only half. The iperf is a little to involved for me to tackle at the moment. I think the test you had me run between the two shows they are not performing at full potential.

  @RickJamesBish

Maybe try to set up Clinet CPE closer to the main AP, and check if the problem still exist. If it is the CPE710 hardware problem, it could also happen no matter the distance.

  @Somnus Tried by moving them as close as possible with the hardware I have, which is now 100 feet and same performance.  I have the same performance issue when I use either on its own connected to the EAP610 OD. I find it hard to accept that both CPE710 are bad.

I have two Ubiquiti Gigabeams coming that I am going to put in place of the CPE710s to see if the performance issue is still present.

Considering the price, surely Ubiquiti Gigabeam Airmax AC has a better performance...

  @Somnus it is by far, and well worth it considering they just went in place and delivered to spec, something the CPE710 never accomplished.

  @RickJamesBish

I understand that you have replaced the device and you achieved what you wanted, I'm interested to know if you have set the "Distance" in the CPE710 settings. It would significantly affect the performance. Thank you.
