Total non-techie here, guessing I'm missing something basic. I just bought one of these gigabit switches for our new home which is wired with Cat 6 cable. I have internet from Xfinity coming into our modem, then to our Google wi-fi, then output into this switch. The input on the switch from the modem lights green, which I believe means it is transmitting at 1000mbs? I then have the wired connections using the Cat 6 cable to various rooms plugged into this switch. All of these show the orange light, which I believe is output at 100 mbs. How can this be? If the signal is coming in at 1000mbs, shouldn't it be going out at that speed too?

I'm a bit hamstrung because none of our computers have an ethernet port to easily run speed tests but running a speed test on our of our wired tvs confirms a signal strength of just under 100mbs.

We've got Xfinity gigabit service thats supposed to be up to 1200 mbs but our Google wifi shows a normal download speed of 800-850.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

@JonTh

You're right. Green=1gig Orange=100/10Mbps

Long cables can slow down to 100Mbps even you have a 1000Mbps advertised cable.

Some devices may support high-speed WiFi but the ETH port is 100Mbps(Fast Ethernet).

Try different and shorter cables and connect SG108E to your Google router. It should get a green LED. Check the specs of the router. Use a gig port to SG108E

@John1234

Thanks and yep, it's the ethernet on the tvs. (And good idea on plugging the wifi in to check the speed - it is indeed green.) You would think brand new Sony TVs would be able to handle more than 100mbs via ethernet but evidently not! Found a hack many people use that I'm going to try - since the tvs have fast usb 3 ports, I ordered the tp-link adapters to plug the ethernet into those and then into the usb 3 on the tv. Seems crazy they would build the tv this way but I guess most people just use wifi these days.

Thanks
