OC200 latest firmware update fails
I have now doen this process twice, and both times failed exactly the same.
Performing the upgrade to the new firmware (5.x) from the last latest release (September 21) fails. After reboot it gets to 67% at start up and just sits there indefinately with no clue as to what its doing - left it for an hour or so!.
Power cycle it and then it states abnormal data has been detected.
Factory reset and then it boots, then try to restore the backed up config which gets to 98% and fails to play.
Really not helpful, now to downgrade the thing again !.
This update seems a fail on my part !!.

The cause for me was down to having a portal setup but disabled. Deleted that at TP-links advice and the update has now taken.
I think there will be another firmware update in the near future to catch some of these strange issues.
Hopefully we are all getting it working now one way or another.

PSA: It looks like they've just posted an updated firmware to 5.0.30, which addresses the issue:

Use the recovery mode and use the latest firmware from the global site.

It hasnt bricked it, I can factory reset it and the new firmware then loads and I can log in, but all my config is gone then.
My backed up config then from V 4.4.6 does not load, telling me something failed too.
I have had to log into V5, downgrade to V4.4.6 and then put the config back - so all is good as I am back where I started but no new firmware.
Looks like I am skipping this update, dont see what recovery mode will bring other than another wasted hour.

The issue you are experiencing sounds unusual, I'd like to escalate your case to the TP-Link support team for further investigation.
They will reach you via your registered email address shortly, please pay attention to your email box later.

@Fae
I had the same experience, when trying to update to the controller v5.0.29 version using the cloud access to my OC200, it was left in a non-functional state. I had to put it into recovery mode, and flash the last good version v4.4.6 available here and restore from a backup:
https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/oc200/#Firmware
I also should note that v5.0.29 isn't even available for download here. So not sure why the OC200 is saying a new version is available for download, if not available manually.

Thanks for the update, glad it isn't just me, seems there is a problem with this firmware. Something has not been well tested.
5.0.29 needs withdrawing until it is fixed.

@biomed32uk
If they upload the v5.x file to the Firmware download site, I may try again and ugrade it manually. But I'm not going to try it via cloud access again.
