Given same models/settings, what causes a client to choose one WAP over the other?

Model: EAP225
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 5.0.5 Build 20210604 Rel. 51118

I have (2) EAP225's in my home, both in a large living room but approximately 30' apart, ceiling mounted.

I have 6 recent model iOS devices connected; 1 Windows 10 on an older Linksys USB adapter (WUSB6100M) connected

WINE WAP - 4 clients connected

STUDIO WAP -  3 clients connected (including the older Linksys USB adapter and a 2015 iMAC)

What's puzzling to me is why do the two devices closest to the WINE WAP connect to the much further away STUDIO WAP?

Is there some kind of affinity set?

I haven't configured any type of limit to the #of connected clients on either WAP

Thanks

@TaylorFusion

Generally, based on your signal strength. dbm.

Yet, there's a threshold for your phone. Your phone will only switch when you reach the weak signal threshold.

If you use some kind of Roaming protocol, you'll get kicked out from the AP. Your phone will then choose the closest AP.

The reason that you stay on the furthest AP is that your phone does not think that AP is un-usable. It still works, still gets internet, still receives an acceptable signal.
