Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hoping someone can point me in a direction:

Is there a comparison between the ER7206 and ER605?

I want to use it standalone.

do they support SNMP to collect interface traffic information.

can you do inbound port/address redirection through the firewall?

Thank you for any information, I was not finding anything in the manual that could be downloaded.

Hello @MikeW1

Hope you are fine

This review is for the "VPN Router" (TP-Link ER7206), Not the "Hardware Controller" that shares the same listing. This device has some issues. It would probably be fine for a Home user, but for a Business that relies on these functions it is severely limiting. Update: TP-Link support was able to help me resolve a few of the issues, but these remain:

1. The SNMP functions are broken. SNMP only gives you the Bandwidth for the One Cat5e WAN Port. It does not show bandwidth for the SFP/WAN or any of the WAN/LAN links. TP-Link support confirmed that they are aware of this issue. "This is a known issue, and our R&D team are already aware of this."

2. The DHCP Server is missing critical options. Setting up a PXE Server requires DHCP Options 66 and 67. This Router allows you to set Option 66, but not Option 67. It appears that this router was designed with Only IP Phones in mind when they wrote their DHCP Code. It does not allow you to set the necessary options for a PXE Server. TP-Link has not responded to my support request regarding this yet.  https://dogsandcatslove.com/what-is-the-only-dog-breed-specifically-mentioned-in-the-bible/

TP-Link ER605 Mbps 4-Port Router has been excellent in our home for the past 2 years. We have an older version of it and it is still going strong. The wireless router is great and allows me to have my PC in my office in the house and also have it in my room, which is upstairs, with no problem.

The TP-Link ER605 and bigger brother, the ER7206, are called "Omada Gigabit VPN Routers."  Omada is TP-Link's cloud management and monitoring service and these routers are primarily designed to provide remotely-managed VPN connections, including over multiple Ethernet WAN links.

These routers do not include any Wi-Fi capability.

What makes them interesting for mobile internet users is their robust failover and load balancing capability.  While this is limited to Ethernet connections, these routers can be useful for mobile users looking to integrate redundant options without spending for an enterprise router like a Pepwave.

@MikeW1 Here is the spec table from their official websites, you can see that there is almost no big difference between them, and they both support SNMP.

Yes, there is a comparison between the ER7206 and ER605. The ER7206 is a higher-end router and offers faster speeds than the ER605. Both routers support SNMP to collect interface traffic information, and can do inbound port/address redirection through the firewall. For more detailed information, we recommend that you contact the manufacturer directly.
