Model: Adapter
Hardware Version: V9
Firmware Version: 9.0.3 Build 20200313 Rel.38262

Hello friends....!

Just got a TP LINK R480T+ Load Balancer and I am doing a very BASIC configuration of 2 WAN connections I am am having problems mainly with my CABLE connection staying UP.

1 connection is from my local TELCO an ADSL link, which comes UP very rapidly and is configured as WAN! and the the other is from a CABLE Co and this is the one giving Problems.

As soon as I connect the ADSL to my WAN1 port is comes up, and I am able to access the cloud BUT when I connect the CABLE modem to port WAN2, it comes up for about 5 sec with and IP issued by the modem itself (192.168.100.10) and then it Disconnect and is unable to reconnect. And not only that it interferes with the connection which has been established through WAN1 and I am unable to access the web.

When I disconnect the RJ45 cable from the CABLE modem (Connected to WAN2) the router begins to work ok.

When I connect my PC directly to the CABLE modem....all seems well.

Open to your suggestions and remarks and many thanks....!

You can try plugging cable modem into WAN1 and ADSL into WAN2 for a comparison test. And did you configure load balance or link backup? Try disabling them.

@Somnus

Thanks for your reply.....yes I did that....and the ONLY link that is able to come UP is the ADSL link. NO matter which port I use...the CABLE MODEM does NOT come UP.

I do not get that far to configure LOAD BALANCING or other fearures.

As a matter of fact......I had put the router away and I took it out of the closet and I have it working ONLY with the ADSL link as the CABLE MODEM link gets DISCONNECTED everytime I plug it into a WAN port.

But as soon as I plug my computer STRAIGHT into the CABLE MODEM all seems to work fine.....I am able to surf the web with NO problems whatsoever.

So I have this 480T+ working on 1 WAN port.

I wonder if the FIRMWARE Upgrade I did to the router has anything to do with it.

Thanks once again for your input and I remain open to suggestions.

Is your modem's LAN IP 192.168.100.1? Did you change the LAN IP of the router, 192.168.0.1? Make sure no IP conflict. Before you upgraded the firmware, did it work fine?

@Somnus

Yes......192.168.100.1 is the IP for my Cable modem.....and yes...eventually I did change the IP for the 480T+...and Yes......BEFORE I did the FIRMWARE upgrade, the router was able to CONNECT BOTH ISP links. The question is...can I downgrade from FIRMWARE Versions......i.e...can I go from VER 9.0 (current firmware Ver) to a lower one and test again to see if the Cable ISP link is recognized....?

Thanks again for your input.

@Somnus

Hey Bud.....Happy fathers day...!

Was able to get the router working with BOTH ISP¨s.......this is what I did.......

1) I did a Factory Reset

2) Downloaded an older FIRMWARE.

3) Did a FIRMWARE DOWNGRADE from the latest Ver to the above Ver.

4) Connected BOTH ISP Links to WAN1 & WAN2 respectively and BOTH came up without a problem

BUT....another problem has surfaced......!

When I configure WAN2 as my PRIMARY WAn and WAN1 as my BACKUP and activate the rule....for some reason it takes DOWN or DISCONNECTS my WAN2 link, leaving WAN1 working by itself.

When I DELETE The rule....WAN2 comes up or is CONNECTED and BOTH links operate ok.....BUT NOT as FAILOVER configurations.

Go figure.......open to your remarks.....!

@Raldy

I have been able to resolve (I think) that other problem that has surfaced and it has to do with ENABLING the LOAD BALANCING OPTION.

With both options under BASIC SETTINGS...ENABLED....I am able to configure LINK BACKUP but once I ENABLE LOAD BALANCING under GENERAL, it brings down WAN1. Right now BOTH links are UP  and running fine.

Open to your remarks....!
