EAP660 / WPA Authentication Timeout/Failure
EAP660 / WPA Authentication Timeout/Failure
I have both an EAP225-Outdoor and just got an EAP660HD. I had hoped to use the EAP660HD to replace an aging Airport Extreme, however when I disconnect the Airport to let the EAP660HD hande the majority of my home wireless traffic, many of the IoT devices fail to associate with that AP. I see "WPA Authentication Timeout/Failure" accumulating in the Omada console. I have had to resort back to my Airport Extreme for those devices.
The devices that fail to associate are majority IoT devices - many based in the ESP32 processor series runing Tasmota firmware (though many other IoT devices are also not associating).
Is there a setting I can change? The network is only IP4 and IP addresses are giving out via a Ubiquiti Edge device.
thanks,
...tom

Dear @tpe,

I see "WPA Authentication Timeout/Failure" accumulating in the Omada console.
Where is the EAP660HD installed, on the ceiling or on the wall? How high is it from the ground?
Is there any obstacle like thick walls from the EAP to the wireless clients?
Please refer to this post and this post to check the information.

Hi @tpe,
How are you managing the EAP660? Through the Web UI? You may need to enable WPA1/2 for older devices (if it is not already). Many IoT are 2.4GHz, 20MHz, 802.11b/g/n so these features will need to be enabled as well (should be on by default, already).

I use the software Omada Controller.
i have no Legacy WPA decides - everything worked previously with WPA2 PSK.

I have EAP660HD and no any issues connecting IOT like ESP8266, using WPA/WPA2-Personal. You using same password for authentication ?

yes. Same password - meant to be a drop in replacement which is why I was surprised that some associations were find and about 40% failed or timed out.

It is on the ceiling of my first floor. In the middle of the house. Ceiling is about 8 feet.
I initially tried it face up from my basement (in the exact location of the AirPort Extreme) and had the same association failures that I still see with it mounted in its more permanent location.
it's a house. There are walls, etc with which the airport devices seem to have no issues

Hi @tpe,
What happens if you try to re-configure / re-setup a few of the IoT devices having issues. Or better yet, make a new, additional SSID on 2.4GHz only and join your IoT's to that.
I wonder if, for security, if some of the IoT's are remembering the MAC address of the old AP or something.
Certainly, I have lots of IoT's on my EAP225V3's, 245V3's, and 225-OD's with no issues:
Many Kasa switches, light bulbs, and a camera
Many Nest cameras
Many Blink cameras
Ecobee Thermostat
Rachio sprinkler controller
Many laptops (mostly Lenovo, one Dell), many, many iOS devices (phones, iPad's, watches)
Tesla wall connector, car
About 50 devices in all, these days.
Verizon Gigabit FIOS with a Gryphon Family Router.

I had wondered about that too, but it doesn't explain the apparent randomness as to which ones will connect and which ones will not.
