Implemented mDNS Service
Hello I was wondering in Omada where I can find the mDNS service ?
I have a TL-R605 router but some IoT devices (especially the once that use Apple HomeKit) do not work or better are unreachable when I put them in a different subnet using VLANs, this is very annoying.
Looking on internet everyone many tutorial (all made on Ubiquiti or sometimes other routers) explain that mDNS repeater is needed, but can't find it in Omada anywhere.
Or eventually is there a workaround or non explicit way to have this done ?
Thanks

@lacrimal i'm agree with the general line of what you say, I'm not agree when you if not supercritical, if you look at the previous updates nothing was supercritical l but was even important, basically silly updates never requested. User requests not implemented or considered at all, there are still easy fix bugs of two years ago I addressed, they said that it was submitted to dev department but never fixed. It's a non trust company, it's lack on too many things and the disappointment is that you have to get what it is today like or dislike but don't expect anything more than what it is today. If what it is today is ok for you that's ok.
My disappointment is that this was a nice project with a big potential with a lot of features that can be implemented time to time but unfortunately TP~Link is not a company, it's a group of I don't know what but for sure not a company of professionals. TP~Link .... the ~ it's not a typo!

Perhaps we should link to the release notes for 5.6.3 (for Windows), which appears to indicate a mDNS repeater is now included.

@Xstreem I am waiting that it gets released for docker as well. I hope they fixed the ACL for established connections as well. By the release notes am not sure if that will be the case.

@supermarkert it does appear on the controller, but does not work without firmware upgrade of the gateway. And that update is not available yet :(

Hi All,
FYI, the mDNS repeater will be added on Controller v5.6, probably released on October this year.
I'll keep you informed once there is more new information came up. Thanks for your attention and great patience!
Updated on October 17th, 2022:
The Omada Controller 5.6 will been released in succession this month, which has added mDNS repeater support.
Note that it still requires to upgrade the router firmware to the adapted firmware. And I haven't been informed of the date for the router firmware release yet, will actively update this post once new firmware is available for Omada router, welcome to subscribe!

Now I will also start to scoff.
So we have a function that has been 'literally' expected for years, but it is only an empty shell, because tp-link forgot to complete 50% of the remaining task.
I assume with a higher probability that this thing does not work at all and is only for show.
If you wanted to pi$$ your customers off a bit more about this topic, then you have it.
Personally, trusting in the work and promises of tp-link, I put myself next to the advice of colleagues present on the forum - by installing pfSense.
I returned the router to the seller.
