Model: EAP245
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Placed a EAP 245 on the celling of the first floor of a building with a hallway dividing offices on the right and left of it. The second floor is laid out the same way. People on the second floor directly above the AP are complaining about signal strength. (Just a dot and or 1 bar). Question is does the WIFI signal only get broadcasted down or is it omni directional? Signal is great on the first floor.

Hi @JDMIller,

What kind of building?  The signal from the EAP is mostly omnidirectional, and generally penetrates residential materials (wood, CDX. plywood, drywall, tile, carpet, etc.) just fine.

But in a business setting, floor construction could be masonry (poured or pre-fab concrete slabs/sections, structural steel, steel decking, re-bar mesh, etc).  The EAP signal won't penetrate these hardly at all.

But the bigger problem will be the weaker client (STA) return signal.  The RSSI levels will be even lower preventing reliable communication with the EAP even if the STA can "see" it.
