Model: EAP245
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: EAP245(US) v3.0

Hi

I just installed Omada v4.1.5 and saw a new option named Full-Sector DFS. So my question would  be: is there any way for me to enable DFS channels on my EAP245(US) v3.0?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Dear @Matt122,

I just installed Omada v4.1.5 and saw a new option named Full-Sector DFS.

Please read the UG of Omada V4.1.5 for the explanation of the Full-Sector DFS. It's only used in the EAP Mesh network to link the EAPs.

is there any way for me to enable DFS channels on my EAP245(US) v3.0?

If you want the EAP to provide DFS channels for the end clients, I'm afraid that the US version doesn't support it. Because it may cause disconnection issues since DFS channels are usually used by other commercial and military services that have higher priority.

The US version supports 5G Band1 and 5G Band4, is it still necessary to use DFS channels?

@Fae DFS support for US/Canada would still be very welcome, particularly for the EAP225-Outdoor in Canada which is limited to UNII-3 (channels 149-165). Even indoors, having more than 2 channels will be beneficial to allow better channel spacing/reuse between adjacent APs.

@Fae Hi, and thanks for the precision.

In my case, it would be really useful, because my neighbors' APs and wifi routers are totally overwhelming my AP's signal.  If the EAP245 had a stronger signal, it would probably be OK, but as of now, I can't get better than 230mbps on my local gigabit network. With an old  DD-WRT router, I easily reach 400mbps on channel 60.

tl;dr: DFS channels or a stronger signal would fix my problems.

Thank you!

Yes, I'd like to see DFS channels as an option on the EAP225 and 245 for the USA market.  Really helpful when you have more that EAP's in the home.  Also, as others have said, most neighbors are not using DFS so as long as you don't live near an airport, militray base, or weather radar installation, the DFS channels are wide open.

But, I would assume that this would require an amendemnt to the FCC certification (in addition to enabling the option in software).

@Fae  I understand the disconection risk, however in congested areas like San Francisco where I can currently "see" over 40 5GHz SSIDs having access to the DFS channels would be hugely helpful.  The Apple Airport units I just retired were stable on DFS channels without radar disconnects and users who are willing to accept the risk of disconnetion would very much appriciate the ability to use DFS channels.

Yes, I totally agree.  Would very much appreciate the ability to use DFS channels in the USA.

@jpp123 @Fae Exactly, I just recently retired an Airport Extreme 802.11ac unit and have deployed Archer A7 and A9 units as well as EAP225-Outdoor (hardwired) for outdoor coverage. Especially outside, even in this suburban area, access to DFS, like the Apple Airport unit defaulted to when set to auto channel, would be very helpful and beneficial in reducing congestion and interference.
